Hi everyone, welcome back to the Getting Started series. I’m Shawn, and in this lesson, we’re focusing on regular blocks. Every block you add to your site is technically a regular block, but the distinction we’re making here is how these blocks are used independently—without being connected to patterns or reusable component blocks, which we’ll cover in the next two lessons.
Regular blocks are standalone blocks added directly to a page or post, with no connection to patterns or reusable components. They give you complete creative freedom to build exactly what you need for specific areas of your site. These blocks are perfect for content you only need to use once or that doesn’t need to be reused in other areas.
We use them frequently in places like blog posts, global template parts like headers or footers, or sometimes when we need to wrap patterns or components in unique one-off design elements.
For example, I’m going to copy-paste content from one of our recent announcements directly into this post.
As you can see, the pasted content automatically converts into multiple block types, like paragraph and heading blocks. These are now regular blocks.
Since these blocks only exist here, any changes I make to them will only apply to this post. For example, I could reduce this heading to an H4 and highlight this text in pink. These changes won’t appear anywhere else—they’re unique to this post.
If I were to paste the same content into another post and decide to change the heading to an H2, or change the list markers to pink, those changes are only applied there. The blocks in each post remain completely independent.
That’s it! We’ve covered how regular blocks differ from other ways of managing layouts and sections across your site.
If you have any questions or want to learn more, feel free to reach out to us through our website or book a demo. We’re always happy to help.
Happy building, and see you in the next lesson!
