Content Relationships
Keep those site visitors flowing.
Tourism Cowichan represents a group of communities on Vancouver Island, BC. A strong tourism website needs to get visitors excited about the region, and to help with trip planning. This UX design was focused on enticing content relationships to aid discovery.
The site’s redesign and rebuild utilized a combination of WordPress taxonomies, Refoundry Query Blocks, Refoundry Post Loop components, the three-column posts index component, and other responsive template parts from the Component Library. This made it quick and easy to build category pages that automatically display relevant businesses and activities, and to feature related blog posts.
Flexibility
Easy to update without a developer.
The Tourism Cowichan website also needed to be extremely flexible, to keep up with the evolution of their communities’ businesses and events. Their small marketing team can’t lose time (and budget) hiring a developer every time they need to change a page layout to balance the design as businesses and activities are added and removed!
Configuring a new business is a quick task with their custom template, post type, and taxonomies. And because Refoundry is low-code and theme-free, their team can edit page layouts (even within templates), change out elements, and tweak style settings within the visual editor. They can even copy/paste layouts that exist on other pages or in their library, including all settings, so that all they need to do is update the text and images.
Storytelling
Capture just the right feeling.
The final big piece of Tourism Cowichan’s redesign was improved storytelling. They wanted potential visitors to really get a feel for this warm, vibrant region. Every page needed ample storytelling content, so that no matter where a user’s journey through the site might take them, they get to know Cowichan.
These content areas were also easy to build using Refoundry page banners and text sections. These components give agencies or site owners a great starting point to quickly assemble an engaging layout, then customize through styling and content.
