What is Parallax?
Parallax is a visual effect where background and foreground elements move at different speeds during scrolling, creating a feeling of depth and immersion. This technique enhances user engagement by adding dynamic and interactive layers to the visual experience, making content more appealing and memorable. By giving the impression of a 3D effect, parallax scrolling draws users into the content, making their browsing experience more engaging and enjoyable.
How it Works
Settings are found under Refoundry > Animations. Enabling the parallax feature transforms the standard scrolling experience into a smooth, visually rich interaction by leveraging a customized version of the Locomotive Scroll library. This powerful tool allows developers and designers to create sophisticated scroll-based animations and effects with ease, to enhance the user experience.
Parallax Settings
You can configure site-wide parallax settings under Refoundry > Animations.
Enable Parallax
When parallax is enabled in Refoundry, several key functionalities are activated.
Smooth Scrolling Effect: Traditional scrolling can be abrupt and jarring, especially on long pages. Smooth scrolling introduces a gradual, fluid motion as users navigate through content, improving readability and providing a more polished feel. This effect makes transitions between sections more seamless.
Access to Locomotive Scroll Library: The full capabilities of the Locomotive Scroll library become available, offering a wide range of customization options for creating complex scrolling animations, trigger-based effects, and responsive behaviors that adapt to different devices and screen sizes. This library allows you to implement advanced animations such as elements that fade in as they enter the viewport, images that move at different speeds to create a parallax effect, and other sophisticated interactions that respond to user scroll behavior. Read their documentation.
Enhanced Position Controls: The positioning options sticky and fixed are enhanced within the display settings of container and column blocks. These controls allow elements to maintain their position relative to the viewport or parent container during scrolling, enabling creative layouts like persistent headers, sidebars, or interactive sections that stay in view as users scroll. Sticky positioning is particularly useful for keeping navigation menus or call-to-action buttons visible, while fixed positioning ensures certain elements, like background images or logos, remain static as the rest of the page scrolls.
Parallax Scroll Speed Controls: Additional settings allow precise control over the scroll speed of individual elements within container and column blocks. By adjusting these speeds, designers can create captivating parallax effects where some elements move faster or slower than others, adding depth and dynamism to the page. For example, a background image might scroll slower than the text in front of it, giving the impression that the text is floating above the image. These controls give you the flexibility to fine-tune the parallax effect to suit the specific needs of your design, enhancing both visual interest and user engagement.
By utilizing the parallax settings in Refoundry, you can elevate the browsing experience, making your site not only more attractive but also more memorable.
